The Great Exmoor Ride is a challenging 66-mile recreational bike ride from Taunton to Blue Anchor near Minehead via Exmoor, and the 2024 version is on its way - the Ride is taking place on Sunday 8th September 2024, it will be the EIGHTH edition of the GER, and the aim once again is to make it every bit as successful and enjoyable as all the previous outings.

At its heart is a truly spectacular and challenging route that's designed to appeal to a wide range of riders, from anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness (and/or a lot of determination!) to experienced, regular cyclists - so it's certainly not for the faint-hearted, but there's no doubt that it has plenty to offer for anyone who is looking for a really good physical challenge and ultimately it's all about having a great day out on a bike while achieving your own personal goal!

But don't just take our word for it - instead, spare a few minutes to read the comments and feedback from previous riders on our Rider Comments page.  Hopefully this will give you all the encouragement and confidence you need to enter the 2024 Great Exmoor Ride, and we look forward to you joining us on the start line for another great day's cycling in the West Country!

The Great Exmoor Ride is a challenging but also very 'relaxed' recreational bike ride that offers a significant physical challenge for the cyclist AND the opportunity for a fun day out by the sea with family and friends.

The Ride starts in Taunton and follows a spectacular course through quiet Somerset lanes before going up onto and across the eastern part of Exmoor, and then finally finishing by the sea in the tranquility of Blue Anchor, near Minehead, on the West Somerset coast.

It's most definitely not a race, there's no official timing, and everyone's welcome to come along and sample the delights of a fantastic part of the Somerset countryside at their own pace en route to the coast - the objective being to enjoy the day and the huge sense of achievement that completing the ride will bring!

It's a fabulous route and, while the amount of climbing involved means that it will certainly test your legs, it's still designed to appeal to anyone who's willing to rise to a challenge - whether experienced cyclists, recreational riders, commuters, or even non-cyclists with a degree of fitness and a positive 'can-do' attitude!

And, of course, with the ride ending by the sea it's the perfect opportunity for friends and family to meet the riders at the finish line, celebrate their achievement and then enjoy a late Summer family day out on the beach.

Blue Anchor is a delightful, quiet coastal location that oozes peace and tranquility, and with our finish line bar & BBQ waiting for riders it's the ideal place to round off a fabulous day out!

The ride itself takes place on predominantly quiet country roads and lanes, with a clearly-marked route and full mechanical and medical support throughout.  An official refreshment stop is also provided along the way, and of course for those of a more leisurely disposition there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and sample some West Country hospitality and/or to take in some truly breathtaking scenery!

NB There will be a limit on the total number of places available for the 2024 Ride and, in the event that any field size restrictions are required for whatever reason, priority for confirmed entry in such circumstances will be assigned on a 'first come, first served' basis.  Therefore, riders are advised to enter early to avoid possible disappointment.
