This was the first time I've ridden the GER and it was fantastic. Really well organised. Lovely route - challenging with a good mix of climbing, descents and flats(-ish). I hope to take part again!

I'd just like to thank all those who organised and supported the riders of the GER. The sign-on was easy, the route signage was good, the 2 refuelling stops were great and everybody who helped on the day were greatly appreciated. It was a fantastic event and I'll definitely be back next year.

Thank you to the organisers of a carefully considered route through some excellent scenery. Some solid leg burners and excellent descents with a burger/cider as your reward.

Excellent event, very well organised and all staff I met on the day were very friendly and helpful. The beautiful but challenging route was very well marked out; it would be difficult to get lost! The food and Sheppy's Cider bar at the finish were much appreciated! Thanks guys.

This was the first GER for me and it was a superbly run event with good feed stations and excellent mechanical and medical support. Was it a challenging event? You bet it was. If you’re thinking about entering it in the future do not underestimate the challenge that waits for you. This is probably the hardest thing I've ever done. But what a feeling of joy and jubilation when you get to the finish, a real sense of achievement. If you've been thinking about doing this event then do it - you won’t be disappointed.

Most challenging ride to date for me ..... but thoroughly enjoyed it, although my legs might disagree. Once again the planning and support from Darren and his team was first class, they make these events worth doing. That's all 3 rides (GWR, Lakes & Lumps, GER) completed in 2022. I will be back in 2023. Thanks all.

Really tough ride, seemed like it was up hill 80% of the time. But lovely day for it and not too windy. Brilliantly organised and particularly appreciated the bacon sarnie at the pit stop which really hit the spot.

As this was the first Great Exmoor Ride for me I thoroughly enjoyed it and as always I got to say hi to some really lovely people whilst enjoying the scenery and spotted a few of the wild Exmoor ponies. Yes, the hill work was a bit tough going but all in all it was a fantastic day's riding :-)

I found the route very challenging, but extremely satisfying to have completed. The event was excellently organised, both before and during. Rewarded with some ideal weather. Only minor issues was missing the first refreshment stop. Probably my fault for not seeing signage. Replaced with impromptu coffee stop in Dulverton. Thanks very much for the opportunity to join.

What a fantastic day I had at a fantastic event, very well organized, the road signage could not have been better, and all of the people working on/at the event were so pleasant and friendly and supportive. I think this deserves extra credit as well given the difficulties that everyone has experienced in 2020! This was my first event of this type and my two friends and myself are hoping to do all 3 of your rides in 2021. Thanks for a great day.

Many thanks for a great day out. It was lovely to take part. Hats off to you making a great success of the day within the current climate. You even managed to source an alternative refreshment stop when one dropped out at the last minute. Your events stand out as being so well organised.

Another superb event - the organisation was exceptional as always, riders safety is given the highest priority and the effort in ensuring that was achieved this year was notable and appreciated. The route is without doubt challenging, a bright chilly start, a torrential downpour, a hill or two, and just as a reminder a stiff headwind in the closing miles, finishing in glorious sunshine, the achievement in finishing is reward enough. This year even more given this was one of the first open events. Darren and the team overcame late change difficulties to organise alternative feed stations and the facilities and warm welcome at both was testament to the high standards at all the events this team host.
Bloody amazing THANK YOU.

The most glorious day out, and particularly welcome in these times of COVID. Cycling over the roof of Exmoor on a crisp early autumn day takes some beating. Excellently organised as ever by Darren and the crew, signposting first class, lovely bunch of riders, welcoming food stops. Thoroughly recommended.

I would just like to send a message of thanks to all involved in organising this event. The Covid health and safety instructions were comprehensive and clear. My first Sportive type ride and massively enjoyable. Brilliant route along roads I would never find ....ever again. Appreciate the massive undertaking to sign the route over 60+ miles, feed stations, food and drink at the end. Also a great crowd of all ages and abilities with no showboaters. Thanks.

This was the second time I have done the GER. Yes it is challenging, but a great ride. Everyone I met along the way was positive and encouraging each other. This year especially it felt that everything had been carefully thought through to make it safe for everyone. To be fair - that same organisation and care is present at each ride. And of course - the food at the end is just fabulous! If you want a well organised great ride - I would strongly recommend it.

For one of the first sportives since the Covid outbreak I thought this was really well organised with excellent pre-event communication. This is the first time I have done this ride and certainly ended up being quite challenging with some showers to remind me I was on Exmoor in case I forgot. The arrangements at the start and finish were very straightforward and I like the idea of a burger and cider as part of the event fee. Well done all at GER 2020!!

Given the COVID restrictions the event surpassed expectations. From the start check-in was very easy and very relaxed. Staff were very engaging. Having participated in mass events London to Brighton & The Ride London previously the numbers included in this event (not sure the exact number) made it feel very personal and at no time was there any congestion with riders. Passing motorbike medic and mobile support units gave a lot of confidence that help is available if required. The event does justice to the beauty of Exmoor, although having to ride head down on the hills I could not always appreciate this. The welcome at the end of the ride was great and very well organised with no feeling of being corralled into food & drink stations (great sausage baps by the way). Overall a great day, my thanks to all.

Please pass on my thanks to all involved! From the joining information all the way through to the end, I found the organisation of this event faultless. The start was easy to find with plenty of room to park, toilets and registration, where you were greeted by happy, helpful staff and volunteers. The route was very well sign posted and scenic (well after the rain had stopped) and challenging enough, for even a regular rider. Post ride again, well organised, great medal and food with a cider to go.....what more could you ask for! There was a safe area to finish with ample parking for those meeting and greeting and again, your staff and volunteers were top line!

Having run about 90 races including about 40 ultras I had no idea what to expect in a cycling event. Some really poorly organised amongst them. I know I have no cycling events to compare but I really cannot see how you can improve on what you have done in creating this event. Keep on doing what you're doing! Thank you for a fantastic day.

Well, good job I didn't do my homework as the ride was certainly pretty hilly but nothing unconquerable (if I had seen the height of some of them it might have put me off entering and so glad I did it). A good mix of riders and abilities and met some lovely people around course, socially distancing of course. Great feeling of achievement at the end and thank you Cowshed for the much appreciated burger, and Sheppy's Cider for the bottle (not yet opened as drove home and saving for a sunny day in the garden!).

First year I'd done the GER yet another superbly run event by you guys. Great route, fantastic support, lovely feed stations and you ordered the sun just as we got to the top of Exmoor to enjoy the view. Thanks.

A big thank you to yourselves and the whole team involved. 2nd time myself and a mate have done this and with all the restrictions you managed to pull it out of the bag and organise a great event! Thank you again and see you next year!
Ivor Whittle
Thanks to you all for another great event. Was good to be doing something a little bit normal again. I would also like to thank all the other riders for the chats and encouragement along the way. It was a really friendly and enjoyable atmosphere from start to finish. See you for the GWR in a couple of weeks.
Adam Matthews
Excellent ride, with spot on organisation by everyone. It felt like a really safe Covid experience which made a real difference to the whole day. Could tell that everything had been carefully thought through. Photographer got me in the rain though!! Glad the sun was out at Blue Anchor. And the burger.. yummy as ever! Well done and thank you Darren and team for making it all work so well.

Many thanks for another brilliantly organised event. That was great fun - a tough and challenging ride with beautiful scenery. It’s great the way the three rides build over the Summer. Thanks, it was epic!
Craig Walker
Wow - what a great ride! Superb organisation all round. So much more of a challenge than the GWR but well worth it. Massive thanks to Darren and his team for organising such a fab day.
Sarah Mathews
A tough and challenging ride, but very enjoyable including wonderful scenery - when I had chance to lift my head!!!
David Szymanski
A big thank you to Darren and the whole Great Exmoor Cycle Team on such a well organised event. The weather this year was perfect for cycling which made the day even more enjoyable. Good challenge and a warm welcome at the end. Looking forward taking part again next year.
Simon Gamlin
Fantastic event - great course with lots of challenging hills and wonderful views. Great organisation and support, friendly faces everywhere and the applause/cow bells at the finish was a nice touch. Can't recommend this enough!!!!
Geraint Jones
Another Great Exmoor Ride, perfect weather even if the head wind did try to blow me backwards a couple of times! Well organised and well sign posted, with mechanics passing constantly checking you were ok, thanks team and really enjoyed the beer and burger at the end, See you next year!
Pauline Taylor
A really good, challenging day over beautiful countryside, and from Taunton. Well done folks for brilliant organisation. The only thing I missed was a cup of tea/coffee and a couple of biscuits at the end. Those of us planning to ride home (and partners waiting in the field) would really appreciate that. My steak bap was lovely apart from the barbecue smoke, but probably better suited to driving than riding afterwards. Maybe use a gas barbecue as well.
David Halstead
Yes, it was certainly challenging (particularly that last hill!!). I entered with fear and trepidation as I am very much a leisure cyclist (and 65 years old), but the whole day was a great experience - so much support and so efficiently run. It was probably even more difficult than I anticipated, but I managed it and felt amazing afterwards. The route was really picturesque - lots of lovely leafy lanes both before and after the expanse of Exmoor. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Shirley Turner
Thank you for organising this event and for doing it so well. Good to use the park and ride as a start and the route takes in fabulous villages and areas of our lovely Somerset county. Good to see less litter left by entrants this year. Brushford is a great village hall facility and an enjoyable stop. Thank you for the enjoyable route and the very well organised event.
Roger Habgood
Just wanted to record my thanks and admiration for the amazing job you all do to make these events happen. We did both rides this year, in no small measure simply because they are so well organised and run. It seems you think of pretty much everything. A great job, extremely well done - thank you!
Allan Milnes
Thank you for a great day, which was certainly a challenge and for an important cause. My Dad has been fortunate to survive Prostate Cancer so today was a pleasure to see him cheer me in at the finish and made a tough ride worthwhile. Thanks again.
Jason Baker
Great event thank you once again, excellently organised and very well signposted. My only observation is that, in comparison to GWR, some of the roads are significantly busier with traffic, on occasions, belting along. Particularly the stretch after Wheddon Cross as it's fairly straight and do get some speed up. It may not be possible but I wonder if there is scope to use a few more country lanes in that later section. All in all keep up the good work and thanks once again, a terrific day out.
John Loy
Well it was certainly a challenge! Having taken up cycling one year ago I've done a few sportives but this was the most challenging yet. My 26 year old son and I really loved it though - hard work but extremely rewarding. The event was really well organised - the feed station at Brushford was spot on - we didn't stop at the Exmoor tea rooms but would have appreciated a water-refill point a little further on (perhaps around 15/20 miles from the end) as we both ran out of water. "Just" a van perhaps with water containers - or maybe warn everyone that after Exmoor tea rooms there is no opportunity to refill water bottles - or perhaps you did on the website and I missed it! Cheers though - we will definitely be back.
Chris Mumby
A perfect day out on the Great Exmoor Ride - amazing scenery and as usual brilliantly organised! Thanks :-)
Ian Fisher
A really well organised and enjoyable ride, challenging but not overwhelming and stunning scenery! Gluten-free cakes at Brushford would be worth doing it again for all on their own! I’ll be doing it again next year if weather is good again. Thanks for a great day.
Rachel Curtis
Brilliant route and beautiful rolling (!) hills. My second time, I'm sure to make it a third.
Jonathan Davies
Super event, well signed and a very relaxed attitude from everyone. Lovely feed station(s). I loved the virtually traffic free lanes in the early miles. Overall it was more challenging than I imagined but none of the climbs were leg breakers, just lots of them. I liked the bar and the quality BBQ at the finish. I don't ride many sportives but this one I would do again. Thanks to everyone involved in making the day a success.
Bob Massingham
I’d first like to say thank you to the organisers and all the support helpers, cheery, helpful and fun. Without them nothing happens. We started as quite a group, which split up a bit during the day, and that was fine, everyone got to the finish, and I think had a good time. The finish area was great, bar staff, food outlet, event personnel, riders, all in the spirit of the day . A top day out, thanks all.
Dave Poole
A great day. Particularly a day after once the pain has faded. I would like to say a grateful thanks to everyone who helped organise this very special event. I would very much like to thank the lovely lady who drove the gray van with red stripe. She made me smile at each point she cheered us on. Even if my legs were saying something else unrepeatable.
Mike Knight
A big thank you to Darren and his team for a great cycling event.
Paul Gore
Thanks for a great event yesterday, very well organised, challenging but enjoyable course. Managed to fall off in the gravel at 2 miles, but twisted bike sorted out by other kind riders!
Diana Parker
My thanks to the GREAT team for another great cycling event. The amount of work you put in to make all of them the success they are is obvious. The wind this year was another factor but I knew from the confidence I gained from completing last year's event that finishing was never in doubt. Once again, well done and roll on 2020.
Colin
Thanks for a brilliant event. Definitely will be back next year.
Anthony
Thank you for all the hard work put into organising this challenging and rewarding sportive. The route is not for the faint hearted, with some very challenging hills, and a few very challenging descents too! The signage was excellent, and the route was well planned, staying away from all major main roads. It was wonderful to see so many organisers, as well as friends and family, at the finish line, cheering all the finishers. I will certainly be entering this ride again in 2020 - though I'll be doing a few more hill climb practices first!
Jon Raybould
Thank you for a great ride, very well organised and relaxed. Will definitely be on my list to do again next year.
Owen Brownbridge
Thank you for an absolutely fabuuuulous ride! I loved the quiet country routes, stunning views and the challenge. There was a friendly atmosphere all round. Superb organisation from start to finish, we were well informed leading up to and throughout the ride. Excellent directions, fantastic refreshment stops with plenty of supplies, the staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful. Well supported all the way, particularly mechanical and medical staff circulating nearby which was very reassuring.
The finish was even better with a cheerful welcome and delicious complimentary burgers and drinks to celebrate and of course....the medal as well as an opportunity to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. Thank you and well done to the excellent Darren and Team :)
Achara Western
Very well organised event, and the best burger in the world.
Justin Cox
Now that my legs have had a chance to recover, I can say that I really enjoyed the ride! Definitely a big step up from the GWR and the hills just kept on coming but the amazing scenery (almost) compensated for the pain! The event was so well organised and everyone was very friendly. Bacon rolls and free coffee really appreciated at the first refreshment stop - as was the burger at the finish. Big thank you to Darren and all the helpers.
Wendy Perry
Many thanks to Darren, Jane and everyone involved in GER for organising another fantastic day! The ride was challenging once again, but absolutely no issues with signage and support. Numbers just about right, and everyone very friendly. Looking forward to next year's rides already!
Neil Daniels
This was my 2nd time completing the Great Exmoor Ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The route itself is more challenging than the Great Weston Ride with a great deal more climbing involved. The extra effort is totally worth it though just for the rewarding vistas across the top of Exmoor and throughout the route.
As always the event organisation is second to none and the enthusiastic welcome at the finish line is always appreciated. Thanks to all involved in organising such an enjoyable day out in the saddle.....See you next year for more of the same.
